Embassies and consulates exist in the Virgin Islands to help direct foreign travelers in case of a diplomatic or emergency situation.

Embassies and consulates offer travelers a friendly face, and someone who speaks the same language as them in countries where language is a barrier.  While this is not an issue in the Virgin Islands, embassies and consulates can assist travelers when they have lost their passport, if there is a medical emergency, or a legal issue. 

If one of these things happens to you during your vacation, you can visit the nearest embassy or consular office of your native country and register as a citizen.  The office will then assist you in dealing with whatever issues you may be having.  In the event of a true emergency, remember to dial 9-9-9 in the British Virgin Islands, and 9-1-1 in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
