Golf in the Virgin Islands

The Virgin Islands are home to three moderately challenging courses and a practice area.

Virgin Islands Golf

Vacationers in the Virgin Islands typically return home from their trip feeling refreshed and invigorated.  Golf fanatics who schedule a tee time at a Virgin Islands course also return home ecstatic.

Unfortunately, there are currently no golf courses in the British Virgin Islands, but die-hard golfers can simply take a ferry to St. Thomas where there is one well-loved golf course and a practice facility.  In total there are four golf courses in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Green fees in the Virgin Islands range from the very affordable $12.50(USD) for nine holes to between $50 and $130(USD) for 18.  Carts are optional here, except for at the Carambola Golf Course where you will be charged $18(USD) for the mandatory cart.

Mahogany Run Golf Course

Established in 1980, the Mahogay Run Golf Course is St. Thomas’ sole course.  It is considered to be quite a challenge, the Par-70, 18-hole course, with a run of holes known as the “Devil’s Triangle;” three holes situated along a cliff.

Herman E. Moore Golf Course

Also located on St. Thomas is the Herman E. Moore Golf Course, which despite being called a golf course is strictly a practice facility.  There are no holes on site, but golfers can practice diving and putting here.

Buccaneer Golf Course

The Buccaneer Golf Course is a public course located at the Buccaneer Hotel on St. Croix.  The facility consists of 18 holes on almost six thousand yards, and a pro shop.  Designed by Bob Joyce, the course is a Par-70.

Carambola Golf Course

The Carambola Golf Course on St. Croix is known for being one of the more beautiful golf courses in the Virgin Islands.  The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, and is lush with tropical plants and lakes on rolling hills.  The course is a Par-72 with 18 holes, and facilities on site include a putting green, driving range, and pro shop.

Reef Golf Course

If you are looking to play a short nine holes of golf, Reef Golf Course is your best bet.  The course is moderately challenging, and considered to be a casual locale.
