Built around an original 17th Century Dutch Fort, Fort Recovery is possibly one of the last standing and oldest, completely in tact Fort in the entire Caribbean. This site is one of the most famous Historical Landmarks in the Caribbean. Accented with masses of bougainvillea, oleander, hibiscus flowers, & swaying palm trees, Fort Recovery is a hub of nature and intimacy.
Jean Lafitte, a renown Pirate landed on Fort Recovery in the 1600?s. Somewhere between 1623-1630, Fort Recovery was used as a Barracks for the wounded and ill Soldiers, thus where the name Fort Recovery was derived, according to historical evidence.
Fort Recovery began in 1969 as a highly popular Bar and had a few charming rooms to rent to adventurous folks just learning about Tortola. The villa style resort was built upon a completely uninhabited piece of land on one of the most beautiful beaches in the BVI. During Fort Recovery’s early construction and land clearing, many artifacts were discovered including pieces of eight, cannonballs on top of the fort and multitudes of pottery pieces.
Presently….
Today Fort Recovery is a highly accredited and successful, Villa style hotel. As demand grew and more exposure for the BVI was made, the hotel expanded itself by building an additional six penthouse rooms, with a breathtaking view of the Sir Francis Drake channel. In 2005 Fort Recovery once again made it’s great leap into expansion and added an additional 24 villas (both ground and penthouse), all with the same renown view right on the beach. Not only did Fort Recovery add on more villas during it’s expansion, but it also has added a Bar & Restaurant and WI-FI Internet access now available for all of Fort Recovery Beachfront Villas's business traveler’s, and guest’s who just have to keep in touch with their friends and families back home! Fort Recovery is in fact one of the only hotel’s in the BVI that has been operating since the 1960?s with the same ownership…
Over the past nearly forty years since Fort Recovery first began, the hotel has expanded and flourished by leaps and bounds. The Fort stands as strong as the day the Dutch erected it, and is a historic landmark. Originally Fort Recovery when the hotel portion was being created, there were six beachfront villas and one very large four-bedroom beachfront home.
